Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton was born on the 19th of January 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. She grew up with twelve other kids. The vivid imagination of her mother helped her escape from the harsh realities of everyday life. The songs she wrote were composed before she knew how to write or read. The first time she picked up a guitar was when she was just 8 years old and began singing on an Knoxville Tenn radio station at age eleven. In the same year, she recorded her debut album on Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. Even though she became popular in the local scene while she was at high school, her ambitions were bigger. The day she was able to graduate from high school, in 1964. The first charting record she had with Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female vocalist to join his syndicated show from the beginning. Parton took the offer and in the year 1967, she signed to RCA Records in 1968 and joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. The show was cancelled by Wagoner, however, in 1974 due to her solo albums like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene beat out their collaborative albums. Parton's song, I Will Never Love You (for Wagoner), hit the No. 1 spot after they broke up. Its first appearance at the top spot was in 1974.
